Social media can be a tough sell for real estate agents.

You need something that is quick, because you’re busy. Something that holds people’s attention just long enough to get our message across, because they’re busy. Something that hits the maximum amount of people, because you want the clients.

You need Snapchat.

I know. I can hear the collective groan from across the Triangle, and I understand. To you, this is just another social media site that you have to deal with. Another app on your phone, another “to-do” on your list, and wait, isn’t that the thing people used to send inappropriate pictures…?

Yes, it is. But it has turned into so much more than that.

Snapchat reaches 11% of the entire US digital population, with 71% of those users aged between 18 to 34. If you’re paying attention, you will realize that population is classified as Millennials and they are expected to have the most spending power of any generation by 2018.

Wait, what? You’re telling me that the Millennials, the people we are trying so desperately to reach are thriving on Snapchat?

Yep. Out of the 100 million daily active users on Snapchat, Millennials make up a large majority of them.

Or, how about the fact that 69% of users on Snapchat are female. According to the NAR 2015 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 15% of home buyers were single females. This is another key group that real estate agents want to reach.

If you are not jumping up from your chair, running to grab your phone, and feverishly downloading the Snapchat app at this very moment, it’s OK. Just don’t be upset when your peers tap into those key demographic while you’re stuck in the Stone Ages (also known as Facebook).
