“Staycation.” Look it up in the dictionary. Oh wait, it isn’t in there because it isn’t a real word. BUT – if it was and you did, the definition would be “The Triangle, North Carolina.” Everything you need on a vacation or what for a fun, busy summer is already here in the area! Don’t worry if your company has not provided enough vacation time, or if that time is already used up. Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill have so much to offer, there won’t be time to think about travelling anywhere else.
As a REALTOR® in the Triangle, my favorite thing to promote about the area is how well-rounded the activities are and how busy you can keep within driving distance of your home. Whether you are single or a family, love the outdoors or prefer the air conditioning, the slow pace of the country or the hustle and bustle of the city, there is plenty for you to do.
The Raleigh Parks and Rec Department fills their calendar with programs and classes for all ages. They also maintain miles of trails on the Capital Area Greenway Trail System, and have lakes and parks galore. Pack a picnic, rent a kayak, register for a program, or take a long bike ride. Check out the countless options here.
Many local venues offer outdoor movies and concerts during the summer. The NC Museum of Art has weekly movie showings, and Koka Booth Amphitheatre has many family friendly films, as well as a variety of concerts. Also, don’t forget about the PNC Plaza and their 90’s throwback movies in Downtown Raleigh! Here is a comprehensive list of those offerings in the Triangle.
The last stop on this Staycation is food and drinks – bottoms up! I can’t speak highly enough about the food and bar scene in this town. There are so many one of a kind, locally sourced eateries that offer anything from Southern fixins’ to international cuisine. You could spend all your spare time in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill hopping from one restaurant to the next.
And I dare you to try all of the local craft breweries! With over 40 breweries in the Triangle alone – talk about Beer Town! The best part is they are almost all kid and dog friendly. So save money on the sitter and go out to drink with your human and fur babies.
“Who brings a baby to the bar?” We do!
While this may seem like a ton to do, it is only the tip of the iceberg for things to do in this area! And if you venture out a little ways from the Triangle, you can visit NC wine country, our famous coast, and the beautiful mountains. The Triangle is the prime spot for a Staycation, so take a deep summer breath, adventure around town, and see what you find! Happy Summer!
