Staging is the process of preparing a home for sale, regardless of price, location, condition or age of the property. Staging helps homes look their best and can help generate many showings, multiple offers, and ultimately ensure the top dollar for your home in the shortest amount of time.

You want potential buyers to fall in love with your home and staging creates that emotional appeal. However, not all staging is created equal. When you hire a stager, there are many considerations.

You Get What You Pay For.

That doesn’t mean the more the staging costs, the better the quality! However, don’t go cheap. Simply putting furniture in a space is NOT effective home staging. A chair in a corner, 1 or 2 pillows on a sofa, or a piece of artwork over the mantle in an otherwise empty room does not create the emotional appeal that connects buyers to a home and inspires them to make an offer.

Uniqueness of Stager’s Work.

Make sure your stager understands the unique challenges of your home. Every home is different and has its own specific challenges. It’s important that your stager understands what your home needs and is not just repeating what they do in every home.

Stager’s Inventory.

Make sure your stager has their own extensive inventory of high quality furniture, décor items, artwork, lighting, pillows, area rugs, etc. They should also have varying styles of furnishing (traditional, contemporary, modern, etc.) in order to create a design theme that complements the home and best showcases your listing. Remember, unlike decorating or interior design, staging your home isn’t about your personal taste.

Stager’s Online Portfolio.

It is important for your stager to show of examples of home they have staged. Their work should create a gut, emotional response – like one gets when walking into a model home. It should demonstrate their understanding of the challenges of many types, sizes, locations, and prices of homes.

One Final Note.

Once your home has been staged, do not waste the effort by not hiring a top-notch photographer to take spectacular photographs that showcase your house like a model home!
