Here’s one you probably didn’t know – November 15th is National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. No, really. It is! You have to admit, it’s a perfect time to do so since the following week is Thanksgiving. Make room for those leftovers! Once again, we scoured the net for the best advice in this regard and we learned some very valuable tips.
To keep food safe it’s best to keep your fridge at 40 degrees or below. According to registered dietician Lindsey ElShalzly, bacteria can multiply when the temp is 41-135 degrees thereby making your food unsafe.
If you’re planning to do a full-out cleaning of the shelves and drawers, try going green by sprinkling the area you’ve chosen to clean with baking soda and wipe with a damp cloth or sponge. You could also mix a solution of equal parts water and either lemon juice or vinegar as well. Now that you’ve taken the time to clean out your fridge, it’s ready for those fantastic Thanksgiving leftovers. The best advice is to store them in airtight containers, but to be sure to eat them up within 3-4 days, this according to the USDA.
