For 24-hours from 6:00pm September 7th through 6:00pm September 8th, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina held their first ever 24-hour Telethon to raise funds, food, and awareness for the programs the Food Bank provides in our community. The Telethon was a kick-off of sorts for Hunger Action Month, which began September 1st and runs through September 30th.
As Social Media Ambassadors for the Food Bank, we were there to capture the excitement during the Social Media Mixer on Friday evening of the Telethon as well as throughout the final six hours on Saturday afternoon. We were there Tweeting, taking pictures, etc. You can see many of them in the album dedicated to #FoodBank24 on our Facebook Page. But, that’s not all.
We also had several “early birds” participate in the 4AM Food Drive that ran from 4:00am to 6:00am on Saturday morning too. John Butler, Kelly Rey, and Mary Young from our Fonville Morisey Inside the Beltline office each volunteered their time to help those that drove in to donate food and other items to the Food Bank.
When I reached out to our office, I had no idea that anyone would offer to volunteer for this crazy time slot! And then, within a short period of time, this group stepped up. Thanks to all for once again, making me so proud to work in an office of such giving agents. You make me so proud! ~ Amy Butler, VP and Sales Manager FM ITB
Kelly Rey had this to add -
Hunger is not just an issue faced by the homeless, or by those in poor countries…people in your neighborhood may be struggling to feed their families. After a natural disaster, Food Banks are there to provide food and supplies to those affected. Fonville Morisey agents and staff are committed to stopping hunger in our community and preventing it in the future. Dedicated to supporting the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina through donations and volunteerism, we’re proud to be part of this vital initiative in our community and state.
The Telethon raised over $20,000 and 3K in donations when all was said and done. It was their first ever and we were proud to be a part of it. Congratulations and thanks to all who supported by donating, volunteering, and sharing through social media.
If you were a part of this first ever 24-Hour Telethon, we’d love to hear from you! Whether you supported the event through sharing via your social media profiles, donated to the cause, or volunteered, please tell us all about it. We’re still reeling from the excitement from the weekend. We know we’re not the only ones!
