Scotty McCreery Hometown Tour in Garner

Scotty McCreery performs in Garner in May 2011 in the American Idol Hometown Tour as part of the Top 3 for Season 10.

The year 2011 was a banner year for Garner’s own Scotty McCreery starting with his American Idol win, continuing with the release of his debut album “Clear As Day” and turning 18 in October, singing the National Anthem at Major League Baseball’s World Series along with numerous appearances (The Raleigh Christmas Parade and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade) and of course his first non-American Idol win at the American Country Awards for New Artist of the Year in early December. He was also voted as Taste of Country’s Best New Artist 2011.

As of last week, “Clear As Day” is certified Platinum, a high honor for not only any album but a debut…and within 3 months of release! Add to it that his first single “I Love You This Big” went certified Gold back in October and his second single “The Trouble With Girls” is on track to do the same. As 2011 wrapped up, he even scored recognition in the No.1 spot in Billboard Magazine’s list for Top New Country Artists in 2011.  Now, Scotty’s up for another huge milestone. He’s a semi-finalist for the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards New Artist of the Year.

Though the Academy of Country Music itself has gone through some changes (including change of name) over the years, its membership is vast and valued. Made up of professionals in the country music business, the Awards themselves are coveted and treasured. To be among the best of the best, to be voted on amongst your peers is quite an accomplishment. However, the New Artist of the Year Award is a result of something slightly different…and here’s where we come in (“we” as in us collectively – the Fonville Morisey family and you, our community).

Beginning TODAY and ending at 12Noon EST on Monday, January 30th, the public can vote one time per day for Scotty in the Semi-Finals for 2012 ACM New Artist of the Year.  Votes will be tallied based on public vote and those cast by the Academy’s professional membership to determine the final 3 nominees. If Scotty makes it through this first round, it’ll be announced in February and a second round of voting will open March 19th-April 1st.  For more information, see the Academy of Country Music official press release.

Bottom line, Scotty needs our votes again to hopefully catapult him to the final round. After last year, we think he easily should be in the final Top 3. What do you think?

OK, Everybody…point, click, and vote for Scotty…again!

And before we go, here’s a memory from his American Idol run -
