Our tennis shoes are laced up, we’ve registered our team and we’ve started training for Raleigh’s 2011 Race For The Cure. The race is one of the events Fonville Morisey looks forward to participating in year after year. Its fun for the whole family and a great way to support a cause that is dear to our hearts.
Founded in 1997, the NC Triangle affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is dedicated to combating breast cancer on every front. The race attracts more than 25,000 people annually and is recognized as the largest 5K in North Carolina. By raising funds and increasing awareness about the fight against breast cancer, the event celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who unfortunately have passed on.
Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists determined to save lives and find a cure. To date, the nationwide organization has invested more than $1.9 billion and is the largest source of nonprofit funds for the fight against breast cancer in the world.
This year, we are delighted to announce that we have joined the 1in9 Team for the upcoming race in Raleigh this June. To encourage participation, we even created this short video naming the “1in9 reasons why” some of us are joining the team:
1in9 is a local organization that helps needy women and their families make their journey through cancer easier. They ease some of the emotional, financial and physical burdens that come along with the diagnosis of breast cancer. They also assist patients with purchasing medications not covered by medical insurance, out of town lodging for treatments, and everyday needs such as gas for their vehicles and food for their tables. Recently, Fonville Morisey’s Croasdaile and Falls offices helped 1in9 support the needs of one patient.
1in9 is hoping to have the largest team at the event this year, aiming to reach 500 members! Fonville Morisey had the honor of being the largest team in last year’s race, so this year we want to help 1in9 reach their goal of becoming the largest team in the 2011 Race for the Cure!
