The following post is written by Lisa Sullivan, Digital Media Marketing Director of Fonville Morisey, an avid American Idol and Scotty McCreery fan who attended last week’s Town of Garner Official American Idol Viewing Party.  Here is her recap.

OK, I admit, I was on pins and needles…but only when the Host of American Idol, Ryan Seacrest, made mention of the fact that viewers would be surprised at the outcome. Of course, by the time the show ended with Casey Abrams and Scotty left standing, the collective prayers (not to mention the fingers, arms, and legs crossed) of the 1,000 or so in attendance at Garner Magnet High School were answered, causing a thunderous roar of exhilaration from the crowd.  Scotty was safe!

Scotty’s rendition of the Carole King classic “You’ve Got a Friend” on Wednesday night proved once again that he’s got “friends” in the millions.  Showcasing his vocal range from soft melodic tones to higher tenor notes Scotty did Carole (and not to mention, James Taylor) proud.  Apparently, millions agreed.

But, leave it to American Idol to mess with our heads.  You could almost hear the wind knocked out of every individual in the Garner High gymnasium when in the final moments of the show, Casey and Scotty were the only two left to hear their fate.  When asked if her palms were getting sweaty as the end drew near, Vickie Cardin VP of Marketing, who attended her first Town of Garner American Idol viewing party, had this to say –

“For one little second I allowed myself to fear but, then I forced my positive attitude to pop back in and I knew he was going to move on to the next round.”

Prior to announcing that Scotty was safe, one of the infamous Garner High “Blue Crew” team members got the crowd going with a round-robin chant of “Scotty!… McCreery!” proving once again that his hometown is proud of him.

Tonight’s theme is “Now and Then”.  The contestants will each sing one current song and one from the 1960s.  Let’s have a little fun with this.  If you could pick Scotty’s songs for this week’s theme, what would they be? Leave your answer in the comment section below and don’t forget to vote for Scotty at the end of the show too!

In the meantime, check out this recap video.  Listen for that special “Scotty” chant.

I'm thinking "Bleed Red" by Ronnie Dunn for the "Now" category and Johnny Cash's 1960's top hi "Seasons of My Heart" for the "Then" category. I'd love to see a dramatic opening with "Bleed Red" and a simple guitar with "Seasons of My Heart". If I was his Producer for the week, that's what I'd recommend. :) What do you guys think?
